Tech in the Political Landscape of 2016

Tech in the Political Landscape of 2016

When it comes to the big issues that are near and dear to the hearts of those who work in the Silicon Valley, technology forward thinking individuals and more importantly voters may not be pleased with either Donald J Trump Or Hillary Clinton. “She wants to take us back to the 1990s and he wants to take us back to the 1890s-and we want to be in the 2050s” is what the CEO of Tusk Ventures said last week when considering the options of who is going to be king of the mountain.

In order to understand where you stand on the issues you should consider where the people stand and how things can be different gong forward in these respective fields. First up out of the gate is the big issue surrounding the H-1B Visas for the highly skilled workforce required of tech employees. There are a limited number of H-1B visas that are offered each year, thus allowing highly skilled workers- many of whom are able to work within their respective tech fields and are thus able to enter the United States. During the Republican debate that tool place in March Trump said that the so called Visas to which I am referring are, ” something that I frankly use and shouldn’t be allowed to use it. We shouldn’t have it. Very, very bad for workers. And second of all, I think it’s very important to say, well I’m a businessman and I have to do what I have to do. Its very bad for business in terms of- and its very bad for workers and its funfair for our workers. And we should end it.”

This is not a surprising stance considering Donald Trump and the political platform that he has laid out that is almost entirely built upon zenophobia and hate. But what he fails to realize is the fact that these visas in many ways help bolster US business through the development of things that products and the ability to allow our workers to maintain relationships and travel across borders more easily as well. This being the case he is painting a picture where in it appears like the German electrical engineer is coming and taking jobs from a US worker who is willing and able to do the job like the comparisons that are made between construction or gardening. But frankly there is more work than people to do it across the board and if the person doesn’t get things done here then they will obviously go forward and use there skills against the US at competing companies.

“It will enable our country to be what its always been, a place where people from around the world can come to start new businesses pursue their dreams and apply their talents to American growth and innovation.” is the stance that Hillary puts forth that paints a nicer picture but the actuality may be further from the truth when all is said and done. But who knows this election year should be interesting for your tech products in the future.

Tech Bites Back

Tech Bites Back

Last week a number of tech giants including Apple’s Tim Cook, Space-X Tesla, and Solar Cities, Elon Musk, and Alphabets Larry Page among others all convened on a private island resort off the coast of the nation of Georgia to discuss futurology including a sustainable future, the terraforming of Mars, a green future, carbon neutrality, and a big hindrance to a brighter future, stopping Donald Trump’s momentum from becoming the most powerful man in the world by becoming the 45th president of the United States of America.tesla-motors-ceo-elon-musk-is-proud-to-be-a-micro-manager

These Men are arguably the most influential people in any sphere outside of energy moguls, and they have the reach and infrastructure to enact serious change. it is important to note that this conference takes place every year, it is a conference addressing futurology, it did not take place in secret and Donald Trump was not the focus. That said the fact that he was even seen as potentially threatening to a future that the worlds most innovative and a bright heads of industry and technology should give the nation pause and consider what the hell we are doing by giving this psychopath the attention we are. At a time where the future viability and health on the worlds ecosystem hangs in a delicate balance we cannot afford to go back or even put progressive policies on hold, we need to work quickly and deliberately to reverse the affects of climate change, and it is clearly the case that if we put someone at the helm of the most powerful position in the world who flat out denies that climate change is happening then we are in big trouble as a species.

Also in attendance was Mitch McConnell who is the Senate majority leader, Speaker of the house Paul Ryan and the walking pile of human waste Karl Rove. These are people from every relm of American power unified under the one banner of stopping Donald Trump. ffffff

Another hot button issue was that of encryption of mobile devices, this coming in the wake of Apple’s refusal to aid the FBI in the hacking into of an iPhone used by one of the shooters at San Bernadino. Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton was notion as being “Pretty harsh and Cook” and apparently “everyone was a little uncomfortable about how hostile Cotton was.” But Cook seems to have held his own and did not falter to the fear mongering that is inherent in the conservative politic of America. Trump has even called for a boycott of Apple products which is so diluted and out of touch with every actually happening that we must take pause and shake our heads. he is quoted as saying “To think that Apple won’t allow us to get into her cellphone? Who do they think they are? No, we have to open it,” Trump explained at a rally last month. “I agree 100% with the courts. In that case, we should open it up. I think security overall — we have to open it up.”

Apple TV

image

You may have watched an advertisement for an Apple TV, or seen one sitting next to a friend’s television. Upon first look, this little black box doesn’t seem like it would be capable of doing much. At its most simple, it is a digital media device. The Apple TV can access all of your audio and video content, access the photos from your phone or MacBook, and when connected to the home network it can access the internet itself. That’s only the beginning.

Apple TV features AirPlay, which is a wireless technology that enables you to stream information and content directly from any of your devices that use iTunes, or your computer. You can even control and sync together speakers specially designed to be AirPlay compatible and use your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch as a remote to control your entire sound system. All you need to do is connect the Apple TV to a sound bar or audio receiver to begin. With speakers placed in the living room, kitchen or on the bookshelf… you can immerse yourself completely in your own music and personalize your surround sound with the touch of a finger.

It also allows you to duplicate any screen you are viewing, so long as the Apple TV is connected with your television. Once you have whatever screen you’re viewing thrown up there, you can use your handheld device to navigate and control it. You can even do with YouTube videos and games, so that your friends can watch. Once you activate Home Sharing, your entire library will be available on your Apple TV. You can browse through any of your music or even full-length movies without having to touch your computer.

If you’re looking for something new to watch, then using the internet connection, you can access the iTunes store. You can rent or purchase TV shows and movies, and even access video podcasts, most of which are free. An easy to navigate Netflix app has been included as well. You can look at your queue, change your selections and even access show and movies in HD (provided your TV supports it). There are many sports and news channels offered either for free, or via paid-subscription. It’s great for those who want variety, but don’t want to pay the hefty prices of the cable or satellite companies.

You can access Vimeo, and access internet radio and podcasts. Maybe you’ll browse through your photo library and share a slideshow of your vacation with your friends. The radio browser has access to over 10,000 channels, and the iCloud photo stream grabs your images to run in the background while you’re listening.

With a device like this, it’s a wonder anyone still subscribes to cable or satellite. Sure, your Xbox and PlayStation may be able to access Netflix or Youtube, but the Apple TV provides a streamlined service as it works with all of your other Apple devices. Not to mention, it is significantly less pricey at only $99, which is a price they have maintained for years.
